Spark Design Studio wins state design contest

April 11, 2007

South Bend - A design submitted by Spark Design Studio of South Bend was “the undisputed winner of the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, Inc. (INARF) Special Recognition License Plate design contest,” according to Chris Akers, chair of the INARF Grassroots Coordinator Network. The announcement was made at the group's annual conference held in Indianapolis this spring.

The contest, held both on-site at the conference and via email, elicited plateover 375 votes from members across the state - with the majority of votes going to Spark Design Studio’s submission, created by the agency’s principal Joya Helmuth. According to INARF, Helmuth’s proposal best represents the partnership between consumers and professionals who provide direct support and services to individuals with disabilities.

The next step for the INARF Grassroots Coordinator Network is to submit an application for the plate to the state and to secure a minimum of 500 commitments to purchase the plate by July 31. If the application is successful, the plate is expected to be available by January 2007.

Funds generated by sales of the special recognition license plate will go to a fund to provide scholarships and other educational opportunities to direct support professionals throughout Indiana.
